The Conservative Party of Canada’s National Council through its Policy Committee is actively blocking policy proposals with broad based grassroots support from being considered at national convention in favour of policy proposals with much less support – against the will of Party members.
Our Party’s policy process is broken and needs to be fixed.
National Council and its Policy Committee has a constitutional mandate to “FACILITATE the ongoing policy process.”
Instead they believe, based on what some in the Party establishment have insisted, that they have the “final say” as to what policies get to be considered at convention.
Their role is to FACILITATE the policy process NOT FILTER.
The Conservative Party’s Constitution states the policy process must at “all times be accountable to members.”
But at the insistence of a handful of those in the Party establishment, the Committee has repeatedly blocked policies with broad based grassroots support in favour of policies with much less support.
We need to level the playing field and create accountability through a process that provides a check and balance to National Council and its Policy Committee.
Amend the Conservative Party of Canada’s Constitution so that policy resolutions with broad based grassroots support (signatures from delegates from at least 100 EDAs) can automatically be considered at Convention. A similar process already exists for constitutional amendments.CLICK HERE TO SEE AND SIGN THE CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT
